The Edge of Nature

The edges of nature contain the inner mystery as they reach into the unknown. There must always be those brave, adventurous souls willing to step into the void...returning with the next step on the pathway that the rest can safely tread.

Most times our focus is towards the middle, or heart of things.  It makes sense because it is where the fullness and heart resides.  But what happens on the extremities of any being, including humans?  It is our extremes that constantly take in the information from the exterior world and we make decisions based on those inputs.  It keeps us safe when we get too close to a fire and our pain receptors tell us to move away.  Our processors store this new information so that we hopefully don’t repeat an experience that was painful, or didn’t result in what we wanted.

These edges of ourselves are the great warriors that steer us and move us along our pathway to safely, protecting the inner core, at the risk of losing some of those willing to make the initial sacrifice.  This pattern continues as we radiate further out from our core to each organ operating within the system of an individual to one of community, then to species, to this world, the solar system, the universe, and into the entire cosmos.  I wonder what the skin of the cosmos explores…what it pulls back from and what it races full-speed towards, pulling us all along as a gust of wind pulls along the snowflakes on the landscape, re-sculpting them into something amazingly beautiful.
